Family Law

The Vermont family courts hear cases for divorce, annulment, legal separation, parentage, child custody and support, dissolution of civil unions, and modification of existing orders.  Some issues, such as adoptions, guardianship and conservatorships are handled by the probate courts.

Getting a divorce can be one of the most stressful events in a person’s life, and can be difficult for all members of the family, particularly where children are involved.  At Bloomberg & O’Hara, we are committed to treating all parties in our divorce cases with respect and bringing dignity to the divorce process.  We understand and appreciate that the decisions made during the divorce will have lasting consequences, not only for clients but also for their families.  Accordingly, we work hard with our clients to learn their goals, and work toward accomplishing them in a manner aimed at minimizing the financial and emotional costs of the process.

Our attorneys have the experience and problem-solving skills to help you resolve your case efficiently and satisfactorily.

* We help clients to reach fair property settlements with their spouses which recognize their unique financial circumstances.

* We crafted a divorce agreement that protected the substantial inheritance our client had received a few years earlier.

* We drafted a divorce agreement that took our client’s significant non-financial contributions to the marriage as a homemaker into account, in order to secure fair distribution of the marital property and the receipt of alimony.

* In a case where the parties shared custody of their two children, we successfully advocated to prevent one spouse from relocating out of Vermont with the children, and to award sole custody to our client as being in the children’s best interest.

Note: Every case is unique and is dependent upon the facts and law involved. Success in one case does not guarantee a similar outcome in another matter.
